Plaque design for 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron's liberation of a Normandy town

The original design for the plaque now displayed in the market square of the town where I live.

A public good - not for profit

This project is a labor of love, not a commercial venture. My goal is to make the history of the 24th Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron (Mechanized) freely accessible to families, veterans and historians. However, the fixed costs of high-level archival research are significant.

Where Your Contribution Goes:

  • Archival Discovery: Because I am based in Normandy, accessing original After Action Reports in US National Archives requires hiring specialized on-site researchers. This is far more cost-effective than the $0.85-per-page fee charged by archives for blind requests, as it ensures we only pay for the most relevant data.

  • Professional Research Suite: I utilise Fold3, Ancestry and Newspapers.com to cross-reference personnel and events. (Approx. $72/month)

  • The Digital Headquarters: Keeping this site growing live and secure on Squarespace costs $295/year.

  • Data & Analysis Tools: I use professional software to analyze and "clean up" 80-year-old documents, costing an average of $350/year. They turn scans of yellowed typewriter text into the searchable database you see now.

  • Based here in Normandy, I am where the 24th Cav Recon’s journey truly began. But the archives are far away. Your support bridges that 3,000-mile gap.

This website is designed as a public good, filled with freely available information which was never accessible before. If you are able to contribute toward these costs, please follow the link below and help to secure the 24th Cav Recon’s place in history.
